Cv boiler comparison

If you decide to buy a new central heating boiler, it is important to compare different boilers first. This is to avoid buying the wrong type of central heating boiler at too high a price. If you want to buy a classic conventional boiler, then you are out of luck, because they are no longer sold here in the Netherlands. This is for the reason that its technology is dated. The improved efficiency (VR) boiler and high efficiency (HR) boiler are the successors to the classic central heating boiler. The energy-efficient HR boiler is the most commonly sold in the Netherlands.

Are you curious about the differences in boiler types? In the overview below you will find the advantages and disadvantages for each type of boiler.

CV boiler type Expected lifespan Advantages Disadvantages
VR boiler 12 – 15 years Costlier to buy than HR and HRe boilers and no condensate drain needed. Lower efficiency and a slightly shorter lifespan than an HR boiler.
HR boiler 15 years Very high efficiency at an attractive price. Drainage required.
HRe boiler 15 years This boiler generates electricity when heating water. You have your own power plant with a HEe boiler and this results in substantial savings on your electricity bill. Pricey to buy and a condensate drain necessary.

Comfort value new central heating boiler

The comfort hot water or CW value label was created to help you choose a customised boiler to suit your current hot water consumption. Everyone knows the moment when they are taking a shower and someone in the kitchen turns on the hot tap. A loud scream is the result. This is because some central heating boilers have a higher capacity than others. Do you have a household of 2 people or less? Then a boiler with a low CW value is often sufficient. Below is an overview of the different CW values with their corresponding specifications and prices.

CW value Capacity Power of the boiler (in kW) Hot water in several places at once Average prices including materials, installation and VAT
CW 3 10 L 20 kW Not possible £ 1.200 – £ 1,800
CW 4 13 L 25 kW Limited possible £ 1,400 – £ 2,000
CW 5 17 L 30 kW Limited possible £ 1.800 – £ 2,600
CW 6 20 L 30 kW Possible £ 2,400 – £ 3,000

Buying a boiler: tips

1. Choose a reputable brand

If you want to buy a central heating boiler, it is not advisable to choose a B-brand. The various B-brands available in the market regularly suffer from breakdowns and other inconveniences. With an A-brand central heating boiler, the safety and reliability of the boiler is guaranteed. The following is a list of well-known A-brand central heating boilers in no particular order.

  • Vaillant
  • Nefit
  • ATAG
  • Intergas
  • Remeha
  • Bosch
Check for quality marks

Doubting about the quality of your new central heating boiler? Check carefully when you go to buy a boiler whether it has the Gaskeur label. Gaskeur is an independent quality mark. The different Gaskeur labels are:

  • Gaskeur HR: High Efficiency
To carry the label ‘HR’, the boiler must have an efficiency of at least 95%.
  • Gaskeur CW: Comfort Hot water
Every household has a different hot water consumption. One household needs hot water in several places at the same time, while another household requires ‘lower comfort’. Behind the letters CW is a value from 1 to 6. A 1 means a low comfort rating and a 6 indicates a high comfort rating.
  • Gas rated HRww
HRww boilers provide hot water through a boiler. At the moment this hot water is obtained in a clean and efficient way, the boiler receives the Gaskeur HRww label, which stands for: high efficiency for hot water.
  • Gaskeur SV: Clean combustion
The Gaskeur SV label shows that the boiler has a clean combustion and thus produces little nitrogen oxide. A boiler with this type of label prevents smog formation and environmental acidification.
  • Gaskeur NZ: Post-heating Solar boiler
Are you the proud owner of a solar boiler on your roof? Then choose a new boiler with Gaskeur NZ. If the solar boiler does not heat the water sufficiently, the boiler will step in as post-heating.
  • Gas label HRe:
If the boiler produces its own electricity from heating the water with gas, it will receive a HRe label. With a HEe boiler, you have your own power plant in your home, so to speak.

If you want to buy a new boiler, check whether the installation company has a VCA quality mark. This quality mark stands for Safety Certification Contractors and shows, among other things, whether the company uses safe working methods.
