Cost of moisture control walls

The cost of moisture control in your wall depends a lot on the severity of the moisture and the area to be treated. We have worked out 3 moisture control options for you.

Basic

Would you like to have a newly built house impregnated? Then you don’t need to have the wall cleaned or repaired first and the specialist can start impregnating immediately. For an average wall (100m2) this will cost around £900.
If you are suffering from rising damp, you can have your wall injected. This is done on the outside of the wall. The cost of injecting your walls starts at around £800.

Most common

Most damp problems are caused by rising damp. With rising damp, you opt for injecting walls. If you have a cavity wall with rising damp, it is necessary to inject the wall on the inside of your house as well. Prices for this project are around £1,500 for a wall of 8 linear metres.

Comprehensive

Is your wall damaged and in need of repair? Then get your wall repaired before the specialist starts moisture control. If you don’t do this, moisture will still manage to find its way inside via cracks and wear and tear. On average, repairing and damp-proofing your wall will cost between £2,200 (injecting) and £3,000 (impregnating).

How does the price breakdown for damp-proofing walls look?

Cost breakdown Damp-proofing walls

Most of the costs are in the materials used. Control agents are expensive to buy and applying them requires professional tools such as compressors to spray the substance into your wall at high pressure. If you want the stubborn damp to be fought properly, always get this done by a specialist.

Choices that affect wall damp proofing price

The cost of damp proofing your walls is largely determined by the cost of materials. You can control the amount of the other costs yourself by making a number of choices.

Choice 1: Impregnation or injection

This choice is determined by the type of damp problem you are dealing with. For damp penetration, impregnation is the solution and for rising damp you choose injection.

Impregnation: Impregnation involves applying a protective layer over the wall that fills ridges within the bricks and makes the wall water-repellent. A specialist charges an average of £10 per m2 for impregnating your wall.

Injection: A damp-proofing agent is injected into your wall through boreholes that stops rising damp. A specialist will charge an average of £100 per linear metre for injecting your wall.

The difference between injecting and impregnating is that with injecting a damp-proofing substance is injected into your wall and with impregnating the outside is treated with a damp-proofing liquid.

Choice 2: Mould

Has the damp affected your wall to such an extent that mould has formed? If so, let your specialist remove the mould first. Mould in your home is not only harmful to your walls, but also to your health. The price for removing mould depends on the situation and type of mould, on average it will cost around £150 per 3 m2.

Choice 3: Replacing grouting

It is important that the grouting of your wall is in good order, otherwise you will soon have moisture in your walls again. Replacing your grouting also gives your house a refreshed look and prevents leakage. Having your wall grouted costs on average £18 – £23 per m2.

Choice 4: Finishing

When injecting your interior wall, you can only start finishing it after the wall is dry. Drying takes 6 to 12 months on average. Don’t feel like looking at an unfinished wall for that long? Then have a salt and moisture-resistant membrane placed between the contested wall and the finish. This will cost you around £20 per m2 after which you can start finishing immediately. Want to have the finishing professionally done? A painter costs on average £30 per m2 and a plasterer is slightly cheaper, at around £23 per m2. Both prices include materials, labour and VAT.
