front windows

Front windows are often seen with stained glass.

To clarify the above prices, here are three examples:

Small window

Your kitchen still has single glass in the frame. You’d like to replace this for double-glazing, but to do so requires replacing the frame, and you’re not keen on that because of the higher price. So you opt for a front window. The secondary window prices for an average kitchen window of 40 x 40 centimetres range from £70 to £100.

Great project

You own an old building and want to have double glazing installed. This requires replacing the window frame, but you won’t get a permit to change the appearance of the property. Then you opt for double-glazed windows. These do not change the appearance at all and give almost the same insulating effect. The front window prices for a large front window of 250 x 200 centimetres is on average £ 450 to £ 550. This will save you up to £60 a year and keep the payback time of your investment under 10 years.

Most safe

You have small children running around at home and they can be very fussy. To ensure there are no serious accidents with the windows, opt for safety glass in the front window. This will cost around £100 to £150 for a kitchen window measuring 40 x 40 centimetres.

What do the mullion window prices consist of?

Cost overview mullion windows prices

The price of mullion windows is made up of several types of costs, namely: labour costs, material costs and call-out costs. The labour cost forms a large part of the total cost. You can save on this by requesting and comparing several quotes. The call-out charges depend on the distance the professional travels to your home. You can influence this, but the call-out fee is only a small part of the total price. The final material cost will depend on the choices that are discussed in detail below.

What choices determine the front window price?

You have a number of choices when you want to have front windows installed. These choices determine the front window prices:

Choice 1: What type of glass?

As indicated earlier, there are two types of glass for front windows: standard glass and safety glass. Safety glass is between £40 and £80 more expensive per m², but it does increase safety in the home. Safety glass can be divided into several types, namely: laminated, toughened and wired glass. Laminated glass does not disintegrate when it breaks because of the added film, toughened glass disintegrates into small blurred particles when it breaks and wired glass holds the glass together because of the iron wires that run through the glass.

Choice 2: Add ventilation grilles?

Ventilation grilles help keep the air inside drier, in addition, fresh air is healthier. Dry air heats up faster, saving you more on energy costs. But it also prevents mould from developing, as it only thrives in damp places. So make sure you have enough ventilation in your home. A small ventilation grille is available from £15 and a large one from £60.

Choice 3: Real double glazing?

An alternative to front windows is to install real double glazing. The most durable choice is HR++ glass, where there is no air but argon gas between the two panes of glass. Keep in mind, however, that it may be necessary to have a new window frame installed. A new frame costs around £700 to £850. This seems like an expensive project, but with double glazing you will save more on energy costs. These savings can be as much as £250 a year, if you have glass replaced throughout the house. By requesting quotes, you will get an insight into the possibilities for your project.
