Install blinds

Out-source or install your blinds yourself?

A question that arises for many people when buying blinds, and therefore important to pause to consider, is: am I going to install my blinds myself or have it done?

Several varieties of indoor blinds are often installed yourself, such as (roller) blinds. Are you not entirely sure of your own abilities, whether you have taken the right measurements or are you having shutters installed, for example, which set the mood for your entire interior? Then you can always call in a blinds specialist for advice, measuring and/or fitting. By having the measurements taken, you do not have to worry about placing the wrong order, which is a nice idea.

Outdoor blinds are often heavier and, with their electrical operation, more complicated to install on the facade of your house yourself. The awning specialist has the know-how to mount your blinds securely so you are assured of blinds that will last for many years. Should your awnings nevertheless suffer unexpected damage after a severe storm, for example, then awning specialists have the right materials to fully repair your awnings. To make sure this will be done for you, we always recommend that you go through the warranty terms and conditions, so you won’t be in for any surprises.

What to look out for when having blinds installed?

What factors will ensure that you have the best blinds installed? It obviously depends on your personal preferences such as shade requirements, appearance or light. There are also a number of points to consider when buying your blinds.

Leading brands:

The best-known blinds brands that have proven their services over the years are Velux, Harol and Luxaflex. These three innovative brands lead the way in developing customised blinds. Somfy is a company that designs electrical systems for blinds, chances are that the motor and controls of your blinds come from this brand.

Certified blinds:

Blinds with a CE mark are made in accordance with European standards. It is important to look into this, as products without a CE mark may compromise the safety of the construction. Your insurance will then not cover any damage. A second test mark is the TÜV test mark, which means that the blinds have been tested for quality and safety and therefore meet international standards. It is therefore useful to check when buying whether the blinds you want to have installed are certified, thus reducing the risk of inconvenience.

Guarantee conditions:

When buying blinds, always ask about the guarantee conditions and the guarantee period, as these differ from one supplier to another. That way, you won’t incur unexpectedly high costs if, for example, a severe storm damages your blinds.

The best deal:

To avoid paying too much for your blinds and their installation, we recommend comparing prices of several providers. This way you can be sure that you are not paying too much and that you are getting value for money.

Handy tips for installing blinds yourself

  • For outdoor blinds, the screen should be between 30 and 50 cm wider than the window frame on both sides.
  • Preferably use stainless steel tools and no rusty tools when installing your blinds. Rusty tools can leave marks on the blinds, causing corrosion and causing the blinds to rust.
  • Make sure that parts on which the blinds are placed are sturdy enough. If you are in doubt whether the fixing is strong enough, contact your awning specialist. Most manuals for outdoor blinds assume installation on stone. Installing your awning on a different surface will require different fixing materials that your awning specialist will know about.
  • Always be careful when dismantling blinds. Some parts, such as the arms of an awning, are under tension. In the worst case, a detached part will lead to nasty injuries. Therefore, be aware of the risks.
