Price examples of a shower renovation
Shower tray
The shower tray is the simplest of the three types of showers. This new shower consists of a shower tray with a shower rail and a shower curtain for separation. The cost of the shower tray depends on the brand and size, among other things. On average, installing a shower tray costs £85 to £740, including installation and VAT.
Walk-in shower
The walk-in shower is a shower that is often included in the design of the bathroom. The walk-in shower is therefore often part of the bathroom itself rather than a separate item. You create a new walk-in shower by extending the tiled floor into the shower. You walk in without a step. Hence the logical name: walk-in shower. You have the option of using a masonry wall as a side partition, but glass is also fine for this. The walk-in shower is very easy to use. Fully dependent on the type of tiles and type of partition wall, a walk-in shower costs an average of £ 430 to £ 4,000 including installation and VAT.
Shower cabin
A shower renovation gives you the option of opting for a shower cabin. The shower cubicle is an enclosed shower room and is in most cases pricier than the open variants like walk-in showers or showers with a shower tray and shower curtain. Of these 3 types of new showers, the shower cabin varies the most in price. This is mainly due to the many extra options. From an austere shower cabin to a shower cabin full of luxury gadgets. Examples of these luxury gadgets include massage jets, the option to steam, LED lighting and an integrated music and light system. The average cost of having a shower cabin installed ranges from £430 to £5,200. These costs include installation and VAT.
How exactly is the total price built up?
A shower renovation should preferably be carried out by a recognised specialist. The costs charged by the specialist for your new shower are made up of several components: labour costs, material costs and any disposal costs of old plumbing or debris from demolition work. Some specialists include the disposal costs in the labour cost, but in most cases these are listed separately on the invoice.
What does this price depend on?
Choice 1: Shower type
When renovating your bathroom, you can choose between different shower types. In these, however, there are considerable differences in price. A shower cabin is a lot pricier than, say, a shower tray with a shower curtain. On the other hand, in most cases you will enjoy a more luxurious look with a shower cabin. Depending on your own taste for type of shower, material and brand, the difference in price goes up to £1,500.
Choice 2: Existing connections
A shower renovation usually means removing the old shower from the bathroom. If you want the new shower in the same place as the existing one, then the connection does not have to be moved. This saves the bathroom fitter a lot of work when installing the new shower and so, after some minor adjustments, the shower can be easily installed. You will also notice this in the total price. If it is possible to reuse the existing connections, this will save you up to £ 200 in extra labour costs.
Choice 3: Additional options
When installing a new shower, you have a choice of additional options. The most frequently chosen extra options are listed below with an average price. These prices include installation and VAT.
Extra option | Average price (incl. materials, installation and VAT) | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Rain shower set | £325 | Wide flat shower head where the water comes down in vertical jets like rain. |
Integrated lighting and music system | £ 460 | Led lighting and music system for extra atmosphere while showering. These options are often only applicable to shower cabin. |
Dirty water pump | £160 | Drains dirty water and grinds hairs. This reduces the chance of clogging. |
