Price structure of a double dormer

Cost overview Double dormer costs

What choices will affect the price of your double dormer?

When you have a double dormer installed, the total price depends on a number of choices. We go through some of these choices.

Choice 1: Prefab or traditional

Prefab dormers are assembled in advance. This is done already in the factory. The advantage of a prefabricated dormer is that the dormer is quickly installed. The dormer specialist only has to hoist it onto the roof and finish it off. It is therefore the most frequently chosen dormer in the Netherlands.

Is there no room for a crane in your street? Or is your house older and therefore no longer standing perfectly straight? Then a traditional dormer window may still be preferable. It isbuilt step by step on site and can therefore be positioned more precisely on your roof. The installation takes longer, which makes the dormer more expensive.

Choice 2: Material of the double dormer

The material of the dormer also has a definite influence on the price.

  • Wood: A wooden dormer gives an authentic look to your house and is easy to repair, which is why a wooden dormer is often seen on Dutch roofs. A wooden dormer requires annual maintenance.
  • Plastic: Plastic is the most commonly chosen material for dormers in the Netherlands. This is due to its inexpensive price and low-maintenance material. Handy, since you cannot easily access the outside of your dormer.
  • Polyester: A polyester dormer is the most durable dormer and is maintenance-free. Because the dormer is made of durable and maintenance-free material, the price is higher than for a dormer made of wood or plastic.

Choice 3: Mounting of the double dormer

With a double dormer, you have 3 options for the mounting:

  • Next to each other: This is the most frequently chosen option. This gives you many windows side by side, which not only creates more space and light, but also enjoys a beautiful wide view. Ideal for a bedroom, workspace or if you have two rooms next to each other, for both.
  • A creative idea with double dormers is to place the dormers on top of each other. This creates a lot of light and space on several floors at once. However, professionals should check carefully whether this is possible and whether a permit is needed.
  • Rectangular dormers: Planning to install a double dormer in the attic? Then consider placing them ‘opposite’ to each other, so to speak. This allows a lot of light in from two sides and gives you more space on two sides of the room.

Choice 4: Additional options

When choosing double dormers, there are additional options that allow you to increase your living comfort.

Option Average extra cost
Roll shutters £500 – £1.500 per piece
Tilt and turn window £ 200 – £ 500 per piece
HR ++ glass £ 135 per m2
Sun blinds £ 200 – £ 2.000 per piece
