What choices affect garden landscaping costs?

The amount of the garden landscaping costs is determined by the following choices.

Choice 1: Do you want to have a garden design made?

Before you have a new garden landscaped, put the plans for the garden on paper. You can make a garden design by yourself, but you can also have your garden designmade by a garden architect. A garden designer listens carefully to what you want and looks at what is possible in the garden, for example a maintenance-free garden or just a green garden with a pond. A landscaper has a lot of knowledge, experience and creativity to design the perfect garden for you. He also looks at the practical aspects so that the garden can be laid out properly afterwards. On average, a garden design costs between £ 350 and £ 900.

If you commission a garden design, you also have the option of adding a planting plan. A planting plan describes in great detail the type, quantity and location of the plants. Prices depend on several factors. If you are curious about these factors, take a look at the garden design page. Here you can find more information about the garden design and planting plan. The plants for your garden cost on average £10 to £30 per m².

Choice 2: Grass, paving or a wooden terrace?

For the foundation, you have several choices. For example, you can choose between laying grass, paving or a wooden deck. If you have a large garden, you can also choose to have all these things installed. Grass is the most economical option at £5 to £10 per m², paving costs on average £50 to £150 per m², depending on the type of tile you choose. A wooden terrace costs an average of £75 to £200 per m².

Choice 3: Do you want a covered area in your garden?

There are different ways to create a covered area in your garden. For example, you can put a pergola in the garden. This is a canopy that you can set up free-standing, or attach to the wall. The top is often left open, or covered with cloth or glass. It is priced between £800 and £5,000.

Another option is an arbour. A gazebo stands alone in the garden and can have different functions. For example, you can buy a romantic steel arbour that is completely open, or one made of hardwood to sit under when it rains. It usually has one or more sides that are open, but can also be completely closed. This is then done with glass to make it a combination greenhouse and lounge area. An arbour costs on average between £1,000 and £6,000.

Garden sheds are a good place to store things like bicycles, garden furniture and tools. A garden shed can be made as elaborate as you want, which is why prices are far apart. They can be made of wood, plastic or metal and also have all sorts of different roofing options. Prices of a summerhouse range from £200 to £10,000.

Choice 4: A pond in your garden?

A pond creates enormous peace and relaxation in your garden. Ponds come in all shapes and sizes, which is also why there is a big difference in price. Indeed, the price of a pond ranges from £1,000 to as much as £40,000 and depends on factors such as the type of pond, the size and the material. A pond therefore has a lot of influence on the amount of the total garden construction costs.

Choice 5: Do you need a fence?

A fence provides privacy in your garden, so you can sit comfortably in your garden without everyone seeing you. A fence can be made of hardwood or impregnated wood. Hardwood lasts longer than impregnated wood, but is also a lot more expensive as a result.

On average, a fence costs between £50 and £250 per metre and if you want a gate as well, you will pay between £70 and £750 on average. Of course, you can also buy a fence for your garden, and there are many different types of this too.

Choice 6: Additional options

The additional options below are not necessary for every garden layout, but it is useful to see if they are desirable for your garden.
