Smooth plastering painting

What to look out for when painting new plastering?

Before you have new plastering painted, it is important that it is dry. But how do you know if it is dry and ready to be plastered? When do you start painting plastered walls? It is said that you should count 1 day of drying time per millimetre. Besides thickness, the drying time of also depends on the type of plaster and its composition. Finally, room humidity and temperature also play a role in drying. Wondering about the do’s and don’ts? Check out a handy overview below.

DO DON’T
Good ventilation Keep the heating on
Temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius All windows closed or fully open

Should you paint plastering or not?

For smooth plastering, painting is recommended. So here it is very important to let the plastering dry thoroughly before painting. Is your plastering wallpaper ready to paint and you still want to paint it? Painting ready-to-wall plaster is not recommended, as it is not smooth enough to paint. In this case, ask a plasterer to make it sauce-ready, allowing a painter to effectively plaster your wall.

Step plan for plastering painting

In addition to your walls painting, you also use a painter to paint the plastering of your ceiling. But how do these projects go? Read more about it below.

Step 1: Ceiling degreasing and levelling

To ensure optimal paint adhesion, the plastering is first degreased. If it has not just been applied and is therefore somewhat older, any loose plaster is removed. This way, the painter creates an even surface for painting.

Step 2: Apply primer

When you have your plastering painted, you don’t want it to soak up too much paint. After all, this will not make the result optimal. By pre-treating it with primer, you fix your plastering as it were, preventing it from soaking up too much paint.

Stage 3: Painting plastering

When the primer has dried, the painter starts applying the paint. First, the edges are given a lick of paint, then the painter gets to work on the roller work.
