Price examples

You now have an insight into the average paving costs. The total price depends on your wishes. Are you going for economical or luxury? Read more about the different options here.

Costliest cueze

The most economical choice for paving the front garden, for example, is to use gravel or grit instead of tiles. Gravel prices range from £10 to £12 per m2. Gravel can pretty well be poured yourself, but if you still want to outsource it to a paver, you will pay at least £10 to £20 per m2.

Average cueze

Do you have a driveway that needs paving? Then it is important that you choose the right tiles. Since a driveway should be able to bear the heavy weight of cars, the tiles for a driveway should have a minimum thickness of 7 cm. The most commonly used tiles for this purpose are bricks. The prices of waaljes run from £40 to £60 per m2, including VAT.

Most luxurious cueze

Do you have a large terrace that you want to pave in an ornamental pattern with luxury natural stone tiles? A complicated decorative pattern costs the paver more time and is therefore often charged by the hour. On average, a paver costs between £30 and £60 per hour. Natural stone such as marble, granite or slate costs on average between £ 40 and £ 70 per m2.

What choices determine paving costs?

The prices of paving a plot of land are determined by several options. You will find those choices below.

Choice 1: What kind of material?

If you want a material other than garden tiles for your paving, gravel is a good choice.

Gravel: Gravel is the most inexpensive option for a paving. Gravel are round small stones that can be supplied in different colours. Per m2 you will need about 75 kg of gravel. Gravel costs on average £10 per m2.

Split: Split is almost the same as gravel, but split is slightly rougher and sharper than gravel. This is because split is crushed and sieved by machines, while gravel gets its round shape because the stones are formed by nature. Split rolls less than gravel when you stand on it, making it a stronger surface over time. The price of gravel is on average £12 per m2.

Choice 2: Types of tiles

If you don’t want gravel for paving, but still prefer tiles, there are many different types of tiles to choose from. The table below shows common types of tiles.

Tile type Price per m2 Characteristics
Tile stones £15 – £25 Are tumbled by machine, which
splits off the sharp edges and creates a nostalgic
and natural look.
Concrete paving £ 15 – £ 35 Sturdy and economical tiles that last a long time.
Available in different shapes, sizes and
colours.
Flagstones £ 25 – £ 40 Flat natural stones in the form of a slab or
tile. Vary in shape, size, thickness and
structure.
Flagstones £ 30 – £ 45 Flagstones are bricks with a fixed size
of 214 x 102 x 55 mm. Are available in
different colours. These tiles are often
used for paving a driveway.
Wood £ 20 – £ 65 Wood tiles require little maintenance
and they withstand temperature differences well.
Natural stone £ 30 – £ 65 Natural stones have a natural and
luxurious appearance and all have different
colours and textures.
Choice 3: Outsource the project to a paver?

A paver will lay the paving perfectly for you. This is difficult to achieve by yourself. A paver has all kinds of tools and materials to lay the paving professionally. If you outsource the laying to a paver, it will save you a lot of time and hard work.

The cost varies from one paving contractor to another and from project to project; how much a paving contractor costs depends on the difficulty of the project. A complicated decorative pattern costs a paver much more time than a standard pattern, which is why it is usually charged by the hour. A paver costs between £30 and £60 per hour. A simple laying pattern is usually charged per m2. For this, the costs start at £10 to £20.

Please check carefully on your paving quote which method of price calculation the paver uses.

Choice 4: Additional options

The following options are extra and are not necessary for the paving, but they are worth considering in order to improve the look and sturdiness.

Product Price Benefit
Sierke £7 – £35 per m2 Enhances the appearance.
Dividing bands £ 10 – £ 30 per metre For level differences in your garden or flowerbeds.
Close bands £ 2- £ 5 per metre The paving stays extra firmly in place.
Gravel plates £ 12 – £ 16 per m2 Plates so that the gravel stays firmly in place.
