What are clinkers?

Clinkers are types of stone used in paving. Clinkers can be seen a lot in the Dutch streetscape. Why? Because clinkers last for years and require little maintenance. There are baked and concrete clinkers; baked clinkers have a characteristic red colour and concrete clinkers have a grey shade. There are 3 clinker sizes: waalformaat: 210 x 50 mm, dikformaat: 210 x 70 mm and keiformaat: 200 x 100 mm. With all these formats you can make a nice varied laying pattern.

What are bricks?

Baked bricks are elongated clinkers with a size of 20 x 5 cm. There is a distinction between baked bricks and concrete bricks. Concrete bricks are cheaper than baked bricks, but are of inferior quality. Waaljes are often used by paving contractors for paving driveways, walkways and terraces in the garden.

What is tumbled paving?

Tumbled paving is new paving that is given a used appearance by treatment in a drum. This gives the paving a more atmospheric appearance. Drummed paving is very popular for paving in gardens and is mainly used for clinkers.
