Cost overview of sauce-ready plaster prices

What choices determine the price of sauce-ready and wallpaper-ready plaster?

How high the price is for sauce-ready or wallpaper-ready plaster in your situation depends on the following 4 choices.

Choice 1: Plaster-ready or wallpaper-ready?

If you want to have your wall or ceiling finished with a layer of plaster so that it is ready for the next operation, it is important that you know what the difference is between sauce-ready plaster and wallpaper-ready plaster.

  • Refinished plaster: A wall that is wallpaper-ready is suitable for wallpapering or for decorative plaster to be plastered over. A wall that is wallpaper-ready is not suitable for painting, because the wall is not level enough for the paint to adhere properly.
  • Plaster-ready plaster: If you want to whitewash or paint a wall, the wall must be made ready for painting. With sauce-ready plaster, the wall is made even and smooth so that immediately after drying the surface is ready for painting.
Sauce-ready plaster is slightly more expensive than wallpaper-ready plaster, because it takes more effort and time to make the wall completely even. The price difference between sauce-ready and wallpaper-ready plaster is on average between £1 and £8 per m2

Choice 2: Do you want to plaster a wall or ceiling?

There is also a price difference in having a wall or ceiling plastered. Having a ceiling plastered is generally more expensive than a wall because it is more difficult to plaster a ceiling. A higher price per m2 applies to all hard-to-reach areas. The price difference between a wall and ceiling is about £5 per m2.

Choice 3: Outsource sauce-ready and wallpaper-ready plastering?

The finish of your wall or ceiling is important for the look of your house, it gives a well-kept appearance. It is therefore important that the plastering is done properly. If you have plenty of time to spare and are handy with odd jobs, you can do it yourself, but if you outsource it to an experienced plasterer, you can be sure it will be done beautifully and well. Because you won’t work quickly and efficiently without experience, the plaster will dry too quickly, leaving the wall more uneven than if a plasterer plasters the wall at a fast pace. Plastering a wall is a difficult project if you don’t have experience and good materials. With a plasterer you can be sure that he does, so you will always get a perfect job.

Choice 4: Extra options

The extra options below are not necessary for everyone. Do check whether they are necessary for your project.

Service Average price, incl. VAT When?
Starting rate £ 290 – £ 320 If the area to be plastered is very small, a starting rate is often set. A starting rate is usually charged for areas under 30 m2. The price does not include materials.
Fancy plaster £ 12 – £ 23 per m2 After wallpapering, you can have fancy plaster applied to give the wall an original finish. Decorative plaster gives your wall a nice grainy structure, perhaps with a touch of colour.
