Frequently asked questions about remodelling quotes
1. Do you prepare the renovation quote?
We do not prepare any renovation quotes ourselves. We will forward your request to up to 6 suitable construction companies affiliated with us.
2. Is there any charge for requesting renovation quotes?
Requesting renovation quotes from Renoca is completely free & non-binding.
3. What quality marks and quality seals are there?
A quality mark or quality seal says something about the quality of work delivered by the construction company. If a construction company does not have these certificates or seals, it does not immediately mean that the quality of the work is not as good. You just don’t know for sure. These are the most common quality marks:
- Bouwgarant: The Bouwgarant quality mark gives assurance that the contractor has the right qualifications and provides clear quotations without surprises. It is possible to take out insurance with Bouwgarant. If, for example, the contractor goes bankrupt, Bouwgarant will ensure that your project still goes ahead.
- BouwOké:With the Bouwoké quality mark, you can be sure that the contractor has the right permits and insurance.
- Keurmerk Kwaliteitsvakman: This quality mark offers at least a 1-year guarantee, an independent disputes committee and clear legally valid conditions.
4. Do I get a guarantee on my project?
Does the end result show defects later on? You may be entitled to a warranty. It is difficult to give an average warranty period as there are many types of renovations. For example, if you have your kitchen remodelled, consider various warranties for: a fridge, cabinet doors, tap, etc. Check the guarantee in the general terms and conditions or ask about it.
5. What work is included?
Check whether, in addition to the remodelling project itself, the cost of demolition, removal and call-out charges are included.
6. What is the best set-up of the total amount?
As you have read earlier, there are several ways to calculate the price:
- price per hour
- price per m2
- fixed price
- directional price
A fixed price offers the most certainty, as the contractor will then not be allowed to increase the price. You will then only not be entitled to an itemised bill. With a target price, the contractor may still increase or decrease the cost. In the case of an hourly or per m2 price, the bill will separately include the cost of materials, labour and call-out charges, which may also be higher or lower than expected.
7. How do I make sure all agreements are kept?
Fix all verbal agreements you have made in a final quotation. This way you will always have all agreements on paper before the construction company starts the job. Does the contractor belong to a disputes committee? They will mediate if you cannot reach an agreement with the builder.
8. What makes the offer ‘valid’?
When both parties agree to the offer, a commitment has been made. This can be done via a telephone conversation (verbal), but it is advisable to do it in writing. Check until when the quotation is valid and sign it with the date and place name. Also make sure that you have a copy of the quote yourself.
